POSTCARD FROM NEW ZEALAND

In New Zealand, the land feels alive—raw, radiant, and endlessly surprising.

One moment, you're tracing the edge of a glacier-carved fjord; the next, you're soaking in a thermal spring beneath a canopy of stars. Wild coastlines, misty rainforests, and snow-dusted peaks collide in a symphony of contrast. This is a place where adventure and serenity intertwine, and the natural world doesn’t just surround you—it stirs something within.

NEW ZEALAND: THE MANSE

A modern bed and breakfast in the heart of Hawke’s Bay wine country

Between the whirlwind of the holidays and the promise of a new year, we found a quiet haven at The Manse—a place where time slows, hospitality feels effortless, and every detail is designed to make you feel at home.

This intimate, two-room lodge feels less like a hotel and more like a private invitation into someone’s home. From the moment we arrived—greeted with freshly baked cookies, antique furnishings, and sweeping views of the Kaweka Mountains—we knew we had discovered something special. While I typically shy away from bed and breakfasts, this stay reminded me why it’s worth diving back in. The Manse strikes the perfect balance: the warmth of staying with dear friends, paired with impeccable service and understated luxury.

Adding to the charm, The Manse is a working farm, where guests can get to know the resident animals. We formed a special affinity for the pigs (don’t worry—they’re not part of the breakfast sausage).

WHY WE LOVE IT

At The Manse, luxury isn’t about extravagance—it’s about ease. It’s about the joy of lingering over breakfast, the quiet of rolling farmland, and the feeling that you’ve just stepped into a place where you belong.

Farm-to-table feasts by master chef Gary – Expect fresh everything—housemade jams, croissants, sausages, and anything else you desire that morning. Meals are a true spectacle, prepared with care and paired with exceptional wines.

Helicopter vineyard tours, truffle hunts, and deep-sea fishing – Exclusive experiences designed to showcase the best of Hawke’s Bay. Including a happy hour at 5.00 where guests can sample local wines and try local delicacies.

Evenings spent sipping whiskey and smoking cigars – Whether in the library or on the porch, guests are invited to help themselves to the extensive selection and truly make themselves at home.

With its stark Jurassic landscapes and ancient glaciers, New Zealand is another place that seems frozen in time. And yet, amid the ancient landscapes of the Southern Alps, Queenstown is a bustling haven of creativity, boutique stores, and incredible wine. Pulsating with energy, this town was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of Pinot Noir between adventures and sample the famous Lake Ōhau Wagyu after an exhilarating hike. These are our picks for the perfect day (or two) in Queenstown.

THE PERFECT DAY IN QUEENSTOWN

Wake up at Azur Lodge – Perched above Lake Wakatipu, Azur Lodge blends rugged alpine beauty with refined luxury. Your morning begins with breakfast delivered to your private villa, best enjoyed in front of floor-to-ceiling windows framing snow-capped peaks.

Heli-hiking through the Southern Alps – Experience New Zealand’s raw wilderness as a private helicopter drops you into a remote alpine valley, untouched by crowds. Hike past crystal-clear rivers, hidden waterfalls, and ancient woodlands, with nothing but the sound of nature around you. Your adventure ends with an exhilarating jet boat ride back to base.

Lunch & wine pairing at Amisfield – After working up an appetite, settle in for a Trust the Chef tasting experience at Amisfield, Central Otago’s iconic winery. Their Pinot Noir is legendary, perfectly paired with dishes crafted from local fishermen, hunters, and farmers.

Wine tasting at Mount Difficulty – A short drive through the rugged Kawarau Gorge takes you to Mount Difficulty, where rocky landscapes meet world-class vineyards. Enjoy a guided tasting of their silky Pinots and crisp Sauvignon Blancs, savoring each sip against the breathtaking backdrop of Central Otago.

Sunset soak in the Onsen Hot Pools – End the day immersed in steaming thermal waters, overlooking the dramatic cliffs of the Shotover River Canyon. Let the warmth of the cedar-lined pools melt away any tension as you sip your new favorite New Zealand wine, watching the sunset paint the mountains in soft gold.

A love story between me and Mother Nature.
